Old Jail and Museum

With cells dating back to the early 1800's, this old jail shares much history

The old jail was built in 1808. The last prisoner to be incarcerated therein was during 1964. The old jail is now the home of the Fauquier Historical Society. The front part of the old jail once contained four cells which had been remodeled into living quarters. It now contains a collection of Indian artifacts, Revolutionary-War era, Civil War, and Colonel John S. Mosby exhibits.

The house was built for Daniel Trundle a Maryland Planter around 1813. Daniel Trundle served on Levy Courts, County Commissions and the State Legislature for ten years. The site posesses a beautiful view overlooking the Potomac River, C&O canal. People report that Colonel Baker, Senator from Oregon and commander of the group of Union soldiers stationed nearby is still haunting the house and the nearby area along with ghosts of his fallen troops.

Spring Hill Church

House of Christ mingles with Indian folklore

Spring Hill Church is built on old Indian land whose folklore remains connected with the chapel. One legend involves the woods behind the church, which people believe are haunted. An old graveyard sits behind the church at the edge of the woods. Supposedly, a treasure was buried in the woods by a surveyor, and his ghost is watching over his treasures.

Premonition apparition appears a few days before a fire

An apparition of a badly burnt man appeared to a Colonial Williamsburg employee while he was working in the printing office. A few days later there was a fire in the printing shop and the employee escaped without injury.
