During the Civil War, the men of southern (and sometimes northern) families often left to fight with the Confederacy. The women were left alone in their homes with no men to protect them. The war invariably came to the backyards and sometimes into the homes of these women. In an area normally off limits to most personnel, it's said to be possible to "hear shoes squeaking on the gym floor or hear a ball bouncing off the racket ball court." Once a leading mill town, now submerged; they left the graves behind Triadelphia was a mill town in Montgomery County located on the Patuxent River. It was once a leading industrial center. Triadelphia was founded in 1809 by three men: Thomas Moore, Isaac Briggs, and Caleb Bentley.
A cotton spinning mill was located on the river. There was also a sawmill, a grist mill, and mill for grinding bone and plaster. A town grew up around those mills.
