For those not from around DC, it is partly a spoke-and-wheel design, with long roads emanating from DC and sometimes extending for miles. One such road is Maryland Route 355, which is colloquially known as Frederick Road, Urbana Pike, Rockville Pike, "The Pike," Hungerford Drive, Wisconsin Avenue, and just plain old three-fifty-five. It's an old road that goes from the very heart of Georgetown (the terminus of the C&O Canal) in Washington, DC all the way north to Frederick, Maryland. Over the years, many strange things have happened along this road and nearby to either side. Probably countless strange things. But the strangest thing occured in hot July, 1997 and it involved a pretty, 25-year-old White House intern named Mary Caitrin Mahoney who was working at the Georgetown Starbucks coffee shop late one night. Attackers broke in, stole nothing, but reportedly shot Mary, laying face-down, in the back of the head five times at close range. Two other employees were killed in a similar execution style. Some dupe was caught and confessed, but many believe the story does not add up; including the fact that Mary was a White House intern in the Clinton Administration.
