An old religious school

An abandoned Catholic school sat next to the "Stonewall Jackson site." The school, razed in 2002, had some legends and ghost stories attributed to it: "flashing lights inside the building" and "ghostly apparitions walking the halls."

Beware of thin Ice

Deep Creek Lake is one of Maryland’s popular winter resorts, located in the mountains of Garret County. Due to its northern climate and altitude, the temperatures can drop to the extremes. In the winter months, usually from December to mid-March, the lake is covered with beautiful sheet of ice. Vacationers and tourists enjoy snowmobiling in this winter wonderland, and sometimes venture out on the seemingly frozen solid lake. Ice can be deceptive in appearance. Water doesn’t always freeze evenly across the lake--where it may be thick and sturdy in one spot, it can be just as thin and brittle in another; breaking under the slightest pressure. At least once a year, someone tempts the thin ice, only to fall into the chilly water below.

A steep hill; a bad accident.

Black Rock Mill is reportedly haunted by two teenage ghosts who were killed when their car went out of control on the narrow and winding road that drops as it approaches the Black Rock Mill. Their ghostly apparitions and overturned car lights have been seen on dark nights. If you honk your horn a few times the spirits are seen rising from the stream and then knock on your car door. A pair of bright headlights have been seen coming down the narrow road and then disappear.

One of the older churches in Maryland, the years have left something behind

Between 1709 and 1715 a simple wooden frame church was built along the northeast shore of Elk River, the site of this church would later become the site of St. Mary Anne's Church, built around 1743. The graveyard outside the church has graves dating back to the earliest settlement of the area in the mid-late 1600s. Some of these graves are thought to mark Indian graves. The church and graveyard have been the site of cold spots, strange mists and other paranormal happenings.
