The bridge set several records when it was built

Thomas Viduct is located at Levering Avenue, west of Route 1, in Elkridge. Built in the 1800's, the Thomas Viaduct is the oldest stone arch railroad viaduct. It is 704 feet long. Designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe Jr., it was named after Philip E. Thomas, the first president of the B&O Railroad. When it was built it was the largest bridge in America. Also, it was built in a curve, which had never been done before.

To protect the city of Baltimore

The British Fleet arrived off North Point in Baltimore County on September 11, 1814. The British planned to approach the city from North Point and enter Baltimore by way of Hampstead Hill (now Patterson Park). The British attacked by land and water at the same time to surprise the Baltimore troops.

A ghostly white stallion, a gypsy and the girl

Every year during the month of August a ghostly white stallion gallops over the Drawbridge. Two riders, it is said, are a gypsy man and his beautiful lover, a couple reunited after their deaths. The man was killed in the 19th century by the woman's seven brothers who had disapproved of her pending marriage to the gypsy. The gypsy man put a curse over the seven brothers. He said that the brothers would die mysteriously. Over the next years, one brother died each year until remained. The brothers died as predicted by the gyspy. In the eighth year after the curse the women went into a coma and died shortly after. In the early 1900s her ghost appear and was seen riding with her old lover on the white horse.

Egg Hill is an old church where a reverend murdered the congregation after a sermon one night! All of the victims are buried outside the church! On some moonlit nights, apparitions of people killed have been seen.
