A place for care and recovery

By Congressional legislation, construction of the Walter Reed General Hospital was authorized, and the Hospital admitted its first patients on May 1, 1909. Named in Major Walter Reed's honor, the medical center was founded on principles that would integrate patient care, teaching and research. World War I saw the hospital's capacity grow from 80 patient beds to 2,500 in a matter of months. Through World War II, Korea and Vietnam Wars, hundreds of thousands of soldiers were treated here.

Harkening from those bygone railroad days.

Hershey's Restaurant is a ramshackle little place alongside the functional B&O railroad tracks near old-town Gaithersburg. This place has character; it is a no-nonsense food eatery with a New York attitude. You'll get great food, quickly, at reasonable cost here. That value and allure and attitude all suited and indeed came from the working class stiffs that much frequented it in the past, when the old-town Gaithersburg rail yard was much bigger and much more active.

Some rooms are now off-limits

The upper levels of this old Du Pont home are off limits because of strange occurrences: Chairs, it is said, will move around by themselves. The sound of laughter, screaming and moaning is also heard in the upper floors. The lights flickering off and on by themselves.
