A cruel stepmother and a promise kept.

People have seen a tombstone in Rocky Hill Cemetery that appears to bleed. The woman buried beneath the tombstone told her husband if he remarries and if his new wife was cruel to her children her tombstone would bleed in sympathy for her children. They have changed the tombstone several times but the blood keeps coming back.

Knopp Road, Rock State Park Back in the early 1700's in an area near Chrome Hill was used by a coven of witches, near the "Old Mine Field" this is an area full of Pyrite ("fools gold"). The rocks play tricks on you here.

They push; you roll

Most of Burkittsville's men lost their lives in the Civil War, and Gapland Road played an important part in the conflict. In the fall of 1862, Confederate soldiers marched along Gapland Road toward Burkittsville in the days leading up to the Battle for Crampton's Gap. One evening the opposing armies' scouts realized that they had each camped too close to one another, separated only by a large hill!
