National Museum of Civil War Medicine

Examines the impact of the Civil War on modern medical practice

Located within an hour's drive from the Washington, D.C. or Baltimore area, the National Museum of Civil War Medicine serves as a center for the study and interpretation of the impact of the Civil War on modern medical practice. The Museum collects books, manuscripts, related documents and medical artifacts from the period 1861-1865, and maintains an active program of exhibits and educational activities. A remarkable Civil War Museum which highlights the medical difficulties faced by the doctors during the Civil War. The museum feature photos of amputation in progress and photos of pile of amputated appendages piled up outside of the hospital area.

In the 1970's a student named Henry lived on the 3rd floor in the west wing of Niagara Hall. Henry froze to death one cold winter night. It is said that he tried to get the heater to work; the room's door was jammed; no one heard his screams as he frantically tried to escape the room. The next morning his roommate found his frozen body clung to the heater, hoping it would turn on.

TNT Area

Blown all out of proportion?

Called T.N.T. area because the U.S. military used to make explosives there during World War II. There are over 100 igloos in the area, where they stored the T.N.T. This is the place where sightings of the Mothman have occurred. The first sighting was here at the old North Power Plant, destroyed back in 1995. Numerous people have reported sighting the creature, known as a precursor to tragedy large and small. Several articles and press reports in local papers. The FBI and secret service investigated; military possibly involved due to the TNT plant. See Mothman Prophecies film which had a great rendition of the reported imagery.
