Preference Farm dates back to 1824. The farm was the home of a doctor who treated travelers and patients in the surrounding area. The home is said to be haunted by a number of restless ghostly spirits: The ghosts of two young children who died at the home in the 19th century are haunting the house. The ghostly children have been seen by workers and people visiting the farm.

Frieda Fromme-Reichman died in her cottage; some say she remains

Books have been written about Frieda, about the lodge, and about the hundred-plus years of treatment (and mistreatment) which occurred there, truly setting precedents and making history on a regular basis. Many lives were improved, no doubt, some couldn't be helped, and a number of deaths were involved. Frieda was one; she died in her cottage, April 28, 1957.

Patty Cannon led an infamous kidnapping group that stole slaves and sold them. Patty was a large woman standing 6 feet and weighing over 180 pounds. She used her house as the headquarters. Her home was built in the early 19th century.
