The Laurel Colored Cemetery was located in the 2300 block of Belair Road. This cemetery was once the burial place for black Civil War veterans, African-American leaders, and members of the clergy. Some time after Cale Betts' rather sudden vanishing act, his body was discovered; he had been murdered. His restless ghost is said to still roam the Little Kanawha River Valley near Grantsville. Ghostly light banter and fare at this merry old tavern. This old tavern is one of the oldest buildings in Annapolis. It was built in the mid 1700's. Horatio Middleton purchased the tavern. After he died it was then owned and operated by his son Samuel. The tavern is known to be haunted by many famous historical figures who once stayed at the tavern. Some of the ghostly people who haunt the building are Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and George Washington.
